American tractor with articulated frame, year of construction 1978 - 1981.
Allis-Chalmers was a major manufacturer of tractors and agricultural machinery in the United States for most of the 20th century. Allis-Chalmers was headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and had another large tractor plant in nearby West Ellis, a town named after the company. Financial difficulties led to liquidation: in 1985, the agricultural machinery division was sold to the German Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG. Tractor production continued under the name Deutz-Allis until 1989, when management sold the company to Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO), which was founded in this way.

The PowerShift 20-speed partial transmission combined with the relatively luxurious Acousta Cab II cab with air conditioning and optional radio offered a relatively high level of comfort for the working farmer at the time. The steering had hydrostatic support. Credits: Julian F. Modding |
