American articulated tractor, 1978-1981
The Allis-Chalmers Company was a major manufacturer of tractors and agricultural equipment in the United States for much of the 20th century. Allis-Chalmers was headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and another major tractor plant was in the nearby town of West Ellis, named after the company. Financial difficulties led to liquidation. In 1985, the agricultural engineering division was sold to the German Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG. The production of tractors under the Deutz-Allis name continued until 1989 when management sold the Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO), which was thus formed.
