In the third (1983) generation, the Civic has become more solid, its base has grown by 125 mm, the four-door version has come closer in size to the more expensive Accord.
In the basic version, the car was equipped with a 60-horsepower 1.3-liter engine and a 4 or 5-speed manual gearbox or a 3-speed automatic transmission. A new 1.5-liter 12-valve engine with 76 hp was also offered.

In a certain sense, starting from the third generation, Civic has acquired the characteristic features that are recognizable in all subsequent “rebirths” of the model. This is a rather low silhouette flattened to the ground, narrowed headlights, a thin line of a false radiator grille. Civic became recognizable, moreover, in 1984 in Europe he won the Torino-Piedmonte Car Design Award. In the New World, thanks to the new engine and “formulaic” technologies, the car was awarded the honorary title of the most environmentally friendly car in America, according to the Association of Environmental Protection Agency.
