The Audi A5 was simultaneously unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and the Melbourne International Auto Show on March 6, 2007. The manufacturer positions the model as a car of the Gran Turismo class, thereby declaring it as a competitor to the BMW E92 (BMW 3-series coupe) and the Mercedes-Benz CLK-class (now produced as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe).
