MOD CAR 1972 PLYMOUTH DUSTER 340 FOR CAR MECHANIC SIMULATOR 2018

1972 Plymouth Duster 340

Plymouth is an independent division of the Chrysler Group LLC, which existed from 1928 to 2001. Engaged in the production of cars and minivans.

Plymouth Duster occupies an honorable niche in the class of compact muscle cars and was produced in one body - fastback from 1970 to 1976.

Duster competed with the slightly smaller Ford Maverick fastback and the slightly larger Chevrolet Nova, a design that hasn't changed since 1968. Although the “Maverick” and “Nova” were also offered in the back of a 4-door configuration, Chrysler managers were in no hurry to switch from the two-door version. The Plymouth Valiant platform was used to create the Duster. The changes affected the hood and rear of the car. This model was created to fill the free slot that was previously “occupied” by Barracuda`s on the basis of the notorious “Valiant”. As soon as in 1970 Barracuda switched to a new "E" platform, Duster took this niche as a compact and inexpensive car.

1970

In 1970, the Plymouth Duster was available in two versions - the “standard” Duster and the “powerful” Duster 340. In the middle of the year, a Gold Duster modification was added with a 225 m (3.7 L) six-cylinder and a V8 318 m (5.2 l). It was distinguished by golden stripes on the sides of the body and behind, luxurious caps, excellent sound and vibration isolation and a roof covered with vinyl. The total sales for 1970 amounted to 217192 vehicles, of which 24817 were equipped with a high-performance 340th unit.

1971

For 1971, only small changes affected Duster`s. A new package came out called Duster Twister, which was distinguished by special stripes on the sides, had a matte black roof and a special shark tooth grille. All modifications were equipped with new seats with a high back and dual exhaust.

1972

In 1972, hidden headlights gave way to surface mounted headlights, and the taillights became larger in size. The power of the 340th engine was reduced from 275 l / s (205 kW) to 245 l / s (183 kW) from a part due to a decrease in the compression ratio from 10.2: 1 to 8.5: 1. Also, the intake valves were not affected for the better - they lost length from 51 mm to 48 mm. Electronic ignition becomes a standard option for the 340th unit.

1973-1975

The next 1973, the Plymouth Duster gets an updated hood, grille, front fenders, bumpers and taillights. The latter were flush with the inside of the bumper, but now they were located on the outside and were decorated with chrome. This year, after the release of the federal law on safety, the model began to be equipped with safety bumpers, which would remain unchanged until 1976. Simple single-piston disc brake calipers replaced the complex four-piston Kelsey Hayes. Electronic ignition is now a standard option for all Chrysler`s models. Of the innovations - heated windows, sunroof and fog lights.

In 1974, the 340th unit was replaced by the 360th (5.9 L) lower productivity in connection with the US government decree on the regulation of emissions and greenhouse gases. Now the larger, 5.9 liter engine in performance was like the 1972 5.6 liter. Amid the oil crisis, a lot of Duster were sold - as many as 281,378!

The model meets the year 1975 with an updated grille. No “deep” restyling is expected. All plants began to equip cars with catalytic converters, while the power of the 360th unit was approaching the mark of 235 l / s (175 kW).

1976

In 1976, the front and side lights of the repeaters are painted in amber (in previous years they were colorless with orange bulbs inside). The salon rear-view mirror is mounted directly on the windshield, and not on the roof brackets, as it was before. The parking brake is now “foot” and not “manual”. And disc brakes are now standard equipment for cars manufactured after January 1, 1976. This was the last year of release of the model.
